July 2011:
It was my weekend on for work. I worked saturday night and remember clearly one of my coworkers, Josie, rubbing my shoulder and asking me when I was going to have a baby. Garrett and I didn't tell anyone we were trying. So I just kind of smiled and said, "who knows!" I had taken multiple pregnancy tests up to this point, all of which were negative. Every time I saw that stupid "not pregnant" phrase, I was defeated. That morning I went home and decided, what the heck and took a pregnancy test. And this is what I saw...
I immediately woke Garrett up and said, "I am pregnant!" He was in shock, I was in shock, but we were very excited. We decided to have our families over for dinner to share the news. I took about 5 pregnancy tests, all positive. I then showered and went to sleep...while Garrett spent the day an anxious mess! But I had just worked all night and needed sleep. We told our families by giving each of our parents a gift with a onesie in it saying, "I love Grandma and Grandpa". One was a girl onesie and one was a boy. When I finally told everyone at work, I told Josie she wasn't allowed to touch me until I was trying again! And that is how it all started my sweet Cash boy. The moment I found out I was going to be a mother...
August 2011:
I had my first doctor appointment to confirm pregnancy. They did an ultrasound and that was the first time I saw my baby. I told them I thought my due date was March 17th or somewhere around then. Turns out, I was a day off. I was 9 weeks along and got my official due date...March 18th, 2012. Garrett and I were so excited.
September 2011:
Besides nausea, which I was taking Zofran for, my pregnancy was pretty uneventful, until one night at work. September 17th to be exact. I floated down to another unit for the night and long story short, I was hit by a patient. Fully extended arm, closed fist, right in my abdomen. I was already having a night from hell, but that just topped the cake for me. I was scared and crying and didn't know what to do. I ended up going to the ER and getting checked. I heard your heartbeat, which I loved to hear, and they did an ultrasound. I got to see my sweet baby again! The tech was trying to print me pictures, but didn't have paper. I was sad daddy didn't see you like I did. Everything was okay with you. The dr took me off for two nights and that was a start of a LONG workers comp claim...which FINALLY got approved in March 2012. Took long enough. I was so glad everything was okay. I followed up with our new OB Dr Hilliard. She did an ultrasound (the ultrasound that convinced several people, mommy included, you were going to be a girl) and gave us pictures. I was excited to have a new doctor and she seemed nice.
This was also the month I felt you move for the first time. We were watching UFC at grandma and grandpa's house. I felt what I thought was you moving, but wasn't sure. It felt like little bubbles in my tummy. After it happened a few more times, I knew I was feeling you! The date was September 24th. I was so happy to finally feel you move inside of me! It was too early for Daddy though. Guess I should have figured at that point you were a boy, especially since I was watching UFC!
October 2011:
We were so anxious to find out if you were a boy or girl, so we paid for a gender ultrasound. We also got some 3D/4D pictures of you, perks of people knowing your mommy is a nurse. We have video (on daddy's phone I think) of us finding out. Your mommy was faster than the guy doing the ultrasound! Clear as day were your little boy parts! I knew I had to take all the cute girl clothes back. It was a boy. You, were a boy. Finally we could put an identity to you. Daddy sighed a huge sigh of relief. He couldn't handle a little girl first. We told the family that night that you were a boy. Everyone was very excited!
We also took you to your first concert at the beginning of this month! Auntie Shaila, Daddy and I went to see Blink 182, a band we love! It was a lot of fun. Cold, but fun!
This month also held halloween. We carved pumpkins and you had your very first baby pumpkin! For halloween, Daddy and Uncle Grant dressed up as zombies (I am sure one day you will share our love for them) and we watched a zombie movie, Night of the Living Dead I think. I got the night off, which I was happy about :)
(Mommy did the carving and we won first place for my art!)
November 2011:
In the beginning of November is Daddy's birthday. For his birthday, we went to Disneyland as a family! I didn't get to ride some of my favorite rides, which just means we will have to go back soon so I can! I just didn't want to risk it with you being so little and growing. I am 20 weeks now. Before we left, we had an anatomy scan done and got to see you on a ultrasound again! You looked so different than the last time we saw you. I loved to see how you were growing inside. They confirmed your gender of a boy and once again you had no fear in showing the world your boy parts! Not a shy boy at all.
This month also marks the start of my disability. I had had a terrible night at work. The date was November 12. I was having contractions ALL night. I decided after my shift to be checked out in L&D. The OB on call saw me and said I was slightly dilated and that I needed to see my dr. I saw Dr Hilliard monday and she confirmed what the dr at the hospital said. I needed to see a specialist and she put me on disability. I was sad because I knew it meant less money, but I was happy to be off work! That early disability ended up being a nightmare, but we will leave that part of the story out :)
We spent Thanksgiving in Willits with your great grandparents. It was a long drive for mommy, but we made it! My feet did swell a little bit, but nothing too bad!
December 2011:
This is always an exciting month for us because we LOVE Christmas. I am sure you will love it just as much as we do! Daddy had his annual dinner for his company. Your mommy looked pretty good, if I may say so :)
We took Christmas pictures with grandma, grandpa and your uncles...
We went on the Christmas Train, which we are excited to take you on this year! One thing we learned, it is very cold and to bring food! This year we will get there early, bring dinner and hot chocolate and get seats INSIDE! It was still fun :)
We watched the 49er game and then we had our annual Christmas Eve party at our place. Hopefully this year we have a house to fit everyone in!
You got spoiled by your Auntie Shaila...
And we split our time with the families on Christmas Day. First grandma and grandpa's house and then we went to Aunt Judy's with grandma. We can't wait to have you wake up Christmas morning to your own gifts from Santa :)
January 2012:
The start of a new year and very soon, the start of new adventures for your daddy and I! I am now 28 weeks pregnant! I can't believe how fast it all went. Just some minimal back pain, but nothing like some people suffer! We rang in the new year at grandma and grandpa's playing games and hanging out.
Then, mommy turned 25. Can't believe I am already 25! We also took a trip up to Truckee with some of the family. I decided to take some pictures of my belly. They didn't turn out the way I liked so I had Daddy take some. He did good :) We just relaxed in Truckee. There was NO snow which is strange for that time of year, but that's what happens when you have nice weather! It was a nice and relaxing trip.
The Niners made it to the playoffs for the first time in FOREVER! And they were actually GOOD! We didn't make it to the Super Bowl, even though we should have. I have decided they are waiting until this year to go so you can see them win :)
I had my first baby shower and boy are you spoiled! Auntie Shaila did a good job putting it on and you got so many things! A lot of people helped to make it a very special day for me.
Then we went out to a park in Livermore and took some more maternity pictures...they are currently up on your wall :)
I can't believe how quickly you will be here! The end of January marks 32 weeks! Only 8 weeks to go...well 8 weeks and a few extra days! But I didn't know that in January.
February 2012:
February, the month of the exciting, never ending contractions beginning. The start of the month was Valentine's Day. Daddy was doing a detox so we couldn't go to eat, but he made me dinner and got me chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite! always remind daddy of this piece of knowledge...) and a massage, just what I needed!
I had my second baby shower at grandma Cathy's house. It was really nice and once again you got spoiled!
At the end of the month, I started having a ton of cramping. It lasted for about two days. I finally called the dr and she sent me to the hospital to be checked. I ended up having to stay overnight and had a bladder infection. I got scared I was going to have you that night and I cried and cried! I wasn't ready! I didn't have the carseat in, the bags packed, nothing! Daddy wasn't even with me at the hospital. Well turns out, they sent me home the next day. And I had several weeks left before you would actually come! But that bladder infection I think is the reason I had so many painful contractions from this point on.
March 2012:
Finally the month of your due date has arrived! We put all the finishing touches on your nursery...
I went and got a pedicure and manicure to be all ready for your arrival! March 7th was the day I went. I picked pink nail polish. I gave you permission to come any day, but you didn't. Maybe if I picked blue...
Mommy was having so many contractions! One day I decided to start timing them...well they were lasting a minute and were two minutes apart for FIVE hours! We decided to go in! They hooked me all up and said we would just watch my contractions. I was about 3 cm dilated. Dr Hilliard wasn't working that weekend and unfortunately for mommy, my labor stalled. The on call dr didn't know me and wanted to be conservative, so they sent us home the next morning. That was such a sad walk for me! I gave daddy his gift and special card, everyone was ready for you to come, but you had other plans. Looking back, I am actually thankful you waiting now. I didn't like my nurses very much that day and the nurse who delivered you, well she was AMAZING. So everything always works out.
We lost two family members before your big arrival. Uncle Donald passed away the second week in March. I ended up taking more maternity pictures the night after his funeral because I liked my outfit. It was sad for my grandma, to lose her brother.
Your great grandma minnie was not doing well either. I wanted so badly for you to meet her! I had a dr appt on March 19th, I was 40 weeks and 1 day. We decided to induce me on March 22nd. The dr was off the 20th and 21st, so I didn't want you to come then! The family wanted me to have you on March 21st, it is your great grandpa's birthday, but you didn't want to come on your own! Unfortunately, Grandma Minnie passed away March 20th peacefully in her sleep. She was 101 and 1/2 years old. I have sweet pictures with her and you were given her favorite monkey's, which I had with us during delivery.
They decided to do her services the following week, which was good because you were coming this week whether you liked it or not!
Daddy and I decided to have one last date night with just he and I. On March 21st, we enjoyed a nice date at Simply Fondue. It was delicious! We went to bed that night to wake up the next morning to have you!
40 weeks and 5 days it took to meet you. 40 weeks and 5 days we waited. And 40 weeks and 5 days was well worth it.
I wish I would have taken more consistent belly pictures (something i will do for the next baby), but here is what I have...
And a 3D/4D ultrasound picture that was done around 22 weeks that looks exactly how he did when he came out!
